Potawatami
Some one has to be first and the Potawatami families that lived here when this was known as the high point on the land carry that distinction. Teeming with game and a respite for the animals from the ever present glacial melt waters ponding and pooling around the “mountain,” this high point got the attention of the people of the land as well. Remnants of the trail by that same name survive nearby at Pickeral Lake. Knee deep in places one can feel the toil of those crossing the land between water ways.
A good place for a home of Earth thickened walls that sprout from the soil maybe even made with the soil, many hands working together and with concentrated effort a home with modern protection from the elements emerges. The walls are colorful clay lovingly applied by hand and sealed in soy oil. The morning pitter patter of feet are kept comfortable with the radiant floor heating of simply laid patterns of ceramic tiles. Multiple sky lites provide day illumination without always having to throw the switch. Tucked in the corner is a Finnish soap stone whole house wood oven. Radiating warmth for days and being the hearth of this homes community space.
Windows facing South bring the heavily forested beauty into each room. A flagstone patio covered with a complimentary porch extend the privacy and living space of the efficiently planned space inside. Similar to the plaza house this one has a hearty soul who loves daily fresh air and visits from the animals of this land.
