Lodge Pole

Selected for its strength the lodge pole trees are offered tobacco in recognition of their service to the race we call humans. Flexible as well the young saplings are used to provide a roaming shelter of sorts as the indigenous families moved between food sources and sacred gathering spots on the Earth. It is a good idea to use building materials that have had roots. The natural transformation of minerals and water energized by the sun and air into dense and tall plants is truly a gift from the elementals working efficiently over the eons of unmeasured time!

Lodge Pole is in its realm as the StarHill common area behind this site is a consecrated space of prayer and ceremony in the “indigenous way.” Gathered and built with the right intentions the camp spot was honored with fire circles, sweat lodges and occasional sleeps upon the land. We have met and know the individuals who built these sacred spaces, and what is becoming an interesting serendipitous collection of remarkable meetings with those who came before!

Imagine a home with exposed rafters made of sturdy logs that have been respectfully chosen to be the support of this homes “heart”. Michigan wood that has not traveled too far and resonates with Michigan soil and other building materials that have also been gathered nearby.
