Distant Drum

We were sitting on the rear deck sunning our solar starved bodies from the long cloudy days of Michigan Winter. The conversation was earnest as dialog had flowed from a question regarding the importance of energy conservation and ecological sensitivity versus the cost of doing business. The heartfelt tendency was to do the right thing and incorporate as much of the latest earth friendly technology with our benevolent supervision of the trades and their contracted work to serve the same intentions. No unnecessary idling diesel engines, minimizing construction waste, routing of the roads to minimize ecological impact and so forth.

A rustle of the leaves turned our attention and we became intimate witnesses to a pair of brown furred four legged s moving through the nearby underbrush. Speckled white the two were recently birthed upon this land and playfully meandering through their backyard. Soon the one out front leaped into the air and took off into the forest followed closely by the sibling. A race ensued with the two encircling some track were were not privy too. Around and around they circled with wild and quick abandonment. Silenced by the spectacle we soon felt the thumping of earthen soil. A deep resonance in our own chests brought appreciative glances to those with previously excited conversation. Appearing with a large pair of ears mom thumped into our purview and proceeded to shepherd in the fawns.

The home site is interesting to profile as the the edge of the meadow has been filling in since it felt the plows steel blade. Gently descending the brush turns to saplings and then trees of taller composure. The house lives large as the original owner was retiring from the world of clocks and someone else's agenda. Designed without the usual enclosures and walls of separation the entry door opens to a pass through view across the interior common space, to the elegantly designed rear deck. A Beautiful composed kitchen garden compliments this house the chef lives in!
